NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK star JORDAN KNIGHT is hosting an unofficial singing contest across the U.S. to give one talented fan his or her big break.
The singer came up with the idea of holding a ‘Jordan Idol’ competition to audition skilled vocalists while he was travelling across the U.S., working on his upcoming solo album.
He began filming fans who showed up outside his recording studio in Boston, Massachusetts and posting their performances on clip-sharing website YouTube.com, prompting more and more wannabe pop stars to flock to meet him at his next stop in Nashville, Tennessee.
He tells MTV.com, “A lot of fans showed up outside the recording studio, and I just went out there with a (video camera). I said, ‘Who here could sing? Maybe you could sing background on my record?’ And a couple girls sang, and I posted it up on YouTube.
“I want to have fun with the fans. I want to hear them sing, and who knows? Maybe there is someone out there who can really put it down (perform well), and if I have the connections to help them out, it’s kind of always been a dream of mine to help somebody out.”
Knight’s next stop is in New York, where he hopes to find a true star.
He adds, “New York is one of the entertainment capitals of the world, so I’m sure there’s a lot of singers here. They don’t have to have the perfect look, the perfect voice, the perfect moves – they just have to have something special. It’s hard to come by. I’m looking for ‘it’. ‘It’, are you out there?” (PAW/WNWCM/KL)
